About the Position

We are looking for a Communications Senior Associate to both serve as the operational backbone of our communications function and contribute to content creation in their own right.

This role would suit someone who thrives on execution from inception of content through to delivery and enjoys shaping polished content, from social media posts to newsletters, web copy to publications.

The Communications Senior Associate will track projects, value accuracy and attention to detail, and be ready to step in and shape content when needed. They will enjoy translating complex technical research into accessible, accurate, and punchy content, coordinating with policy, research, and programs teams to deliver on time. They’ll be comfortable switching between projects and priorities, and be driven by the fast-moving AI policy environment.

Reporting to the Communications Manager, this role provides essential support to the implementation of communications strategy and plans that advance IAPS’s mission. As a remote-first organization, we seek candidates with the ability to take the initiative and move work forward independently, while staying closely connected and collaborative with colleagues. This role involves a high level of coordination, so it would suit candidates who are comfortable engaging regularly with teammates and stakeholders.

This is a fully remote position only open to candidates in the US (Eastern Time Zone only) or UK who have valid work authorization. The annual salary range is $81K-$100K USD, or the equivalent in GBP (using a historical average conversion rate). Candidates based in London or Washington, DC are eligible for a location uplift. All salaries are pre-tax. We have a preference for candidates who can work full-time (40-hours per week).

Time Zones and Working Hours: This role will be best suited for applicants based in the UK or US East Coast (Eastern Time); therefore, we will only be considering applicants in those geographic regions.

Travel: Please note that international travel, including at least for a length of two weeks for our annual organization-wide retreat and programming events, is an essential requirement for this position. We ask that you only apply if you are able to meet the travel requirements for this position.

Key Responsibilities

Operations & Execution

  • Track communications deliverable from assignment to publication or launch, and flag deadline risks early.

  • Manage business as usual workflow, approvals, and handoffs through the publications process, coordinating with teams across the organization.

  • Oversee production of digital and multimedia content, managing contractors and agencies.

  • Ensure quality control helping to raise the editorial bar.

  • Lead regular updates of Style Guide, branding, and templates.

Content Creation

  • Draft and edit copy for web, social platforms, and organizational newsletters.

  • Repurpose longer research/policy content into shorter, platform-ready formats (a report into a carousel, a brief into a LinkedIn post).

  • Leverage digital platforms and spot opportunities for new content formats that promote and extend the reach of our research to key stakeholders.

  • Provide communications inputs to programming and events.

  • Support the drafting of executive communications and thought leadership when capacity requires it.

What We Are Looking For

Required Skills and Experience

  • 5+ years in a communications role that combined hands-on writing/content production with project or editorial operations. Experience in policy or think tank environments is preferred.

  • Strong writing and editing skills — comfortable working with technical and complex materials.

  • Demonstrated initiative and solutions-oriented mindset, with ability to prioritize among multiple demands.

  • Sharp attention to detail and ability to unblock production.

  • Experience with CMS, project management, and communications tools (Payload, WordPress, Trello, Mailchimp etc.)

  • Experience with social media platforms.

Desired Skills and Experience

  • Familiarity with AI policy, national security, or governance issues.

  • Ability to juggle competing projects and priorities.

  • High attention to detail.

  • Familiarity with using analytics to improve communications outputs.

  • Solid judgment and ability to spot communications risks.

What We Offer

Compensation

  • Annual salary within the following range for a full-time position, prorated for part-time work: $81,000 - $100,000 USD (pre-tax).

  • Compensation is paid in your local currency. For example, if you are a UK resident, we would pay the equivalent to the amounts above but in GBP. We use a set methodology to determine conversion rates, which are reviewed regularly.

  • The exact salary will be based on the candidate’s prior relevant experience and location (candidates in DC and London will receive relatively higher salaries).

Other Benefits

  • Comprehensive global benefits package, including generous health insurance.

  • Generous paid time off (PTO) and unpaid leave, including:

    • Unlimited vacation with a minimum 30 days off per year (which includes public local holidays).

    • Unlimited (within reason) personal and sick leave.

    • Parental leave: up to 6-9 months of a combination of paid and unpaid leave that can be taken within the first 2 years after a child’s birth or adoption.

  • Technology budget equivalent to $5,000 USD every 3 years for purchasing work and office equipment.

  • Coworking support (including in-person desk space in our hub locations) and AI tools budget to help you be your most productive self.

  • Accessibility: We’re committed to running an inclusive and accessible hiring process. We warmly invite you to reach out to careers@iaps.ai with any questions or accessibility requests such as chat box use during interviews.

  • Extension Requests: We will try to accommodate extension requests that are made before the deadline and are for up to three days. We generally cannot accommodate extension requests made on or after the application deadline, or are longer than three days, and cannot accept late submissions to ensure fairness to other applicants.
